Removing the FASTag sticker from your vehicle’s windshield is not easy as it seems. It is not as straightforward as peeling it off. Besides, you shouldn’t have to remove it from your vehicle.

FASTag has been made mandatory for all 4-wheelers. You cannot pass through a highway tollbooth with cash as a mode of payment. However, you can still use cash to pay tolls that are located within city limits.

Nonetheless, you may still want to peel off your FASTag sticker for various reasons. I had to take it off because I had to verify my KYC at a location that is far away from where I reside. It was an SBI FASTag, but the store next to my house sold PayTM FASTags. And most importantly, I could do my KYC right there.

I’ve had enough experience with peeling off adhesives to know that they may not always come off cleanly. So I decided to do a quick Google search on removing FASTag stickers. I couldn’t find any. So I went on to peel it off in my own way. Here’s how I did it. You will be able to get the FASTag sticker off of your 4-wheeler in the same way.

Step1: What you need

Taking the FASTag sticker off of your windshield isn’t as simple as ripping off a band-aid. So you will need some simple things. You will need:

  • A glass cleaner spray like the one from Colin.
  • A microfiber cloth.
  • A safety razor blade.

Step2: Spray and rip

You may find it uncomfortable to reach your FASTag sticker past your vehicle’s rear view mirror. If it is too inconvenient, you can disassemble the rear view mirror. Then:

  • Spray the glass cleaner solution onto the FASTag sticker.
  • Peel off the FASTag.

If you’re unable to get the edges of the sticker off, use the blade to lift the edge up.

Step3: Scrape

On ripping the sticker off, you will find a silver film still stuck onto your windshield. That is the RFID part of the FASTag. Just underneath that film, there will be residue adhesive. You can get both of them off.

  • Spray more glass cleaner solution on to the residue.
  • Hold your blade at a 45 degree angle and start scraping the silver film and the adhesive.
  • The blade will accumulate the residue debris on its edges. Wipe it off with the microfiber cloth and repeat.

FASTag off

That’s it. This procedure is a mere 5 minute process. You may want to wipe up any remaining glass cleaning solution from your windshield. Your windshield will look like it never had a sticker on there. After removing your old FASTag sticker, you can proceed to install a new one in its place.
